GENERAL OVERVIEW

Albania is working towards to the alternation of energy efficiency policy and renewable energy sources, making that a part of the whole energy strategy based on EU Directives (2001/77/EC, 2003/54/EC; 2003/55/EC). Actually, Albanian National Strategy of Energy 2007-2020 (updated), has included not only the classics fossil fuel, but either the energy efficiency or renewable energy sources. Their inclusion is accompanied with all steps to be undertaken in order to be implemented. The main aim of their involvement, is in close cooperation with the objective of exploitation of all energetic resources including renewable ones. Albania has ratified some agreements related to renewable energy and is working to harmonize the renewable energy legal framework. Energy policy integration is an Albanian government obligation under the Stabilization-Association Agreement due to the legal framework harmonization. Increasing of the security of supply and renewable energy contribution, are key issues in the Albanian energy policy reflecting energy efficiency and renewable energy sources issues. Actually, our country is linking the strategy of energy, renewable energy sources and energy efficiency. Their progress to energy policy and environment is very important on establishing of an operation framework for practical profits and very good possibilities to the progress. Energy supply security and climate changes are important guideline energy factors for energy policy in Albania, which is always reflected to energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
