National Agency of Natural Resources (AKBN) welcomes its New Director

Mr. Genci Tërpo has been appointed Executive Director of the National Agency of Natural Resources (AKBN). He was introduced by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Mr. Erlind Sulo, at the premises of AKBN.

Mr. Tërpo brings over 20 years of professional and academic experience in both private and public sectors. He has led the National Secretariat of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI, Albania), guiding the country’s compliance process with global transparency standards in the extractive industries sector.

Furthermore, Mr. Tërpo has worked closely with civil society as the project director and legal expert in the field of human rights and fundamental freedoms, and has provided consultancy services to NGOs in policy analysis related to justice reform, energy, human rights, and biodiversity.

He has served as a lawyer, providing legal support and representation before courts of all levels in Albania and before the European Court of Human Rights. He has also been a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, teaching Administrative Law.

Throughout his career, Mr. Tërpo held important positions such as:

– ‎Legal Advisor to the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, focusing on the transport and mining sectors, as well as on the monitoring of international agreements;

– Deputy Commissioner at the Office of the People’s Advocate of Albania;

– National and international project manager on access to justice, anti-discrimination, and the protection of vulnerable groups, providing legal aid and representation to Albanian courts and the European Court of Human Rights.

As a legal consultant, he has provided support in sports legislation through the review of contracts, monitoring the legal compliance of sports federations, and proposing improvements to the legal framework in the youth and sports sector.

Mister Tërpo graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Tirana. He completed postgraduate studies in Constitutional and Administrative Legislation at the European University of Tirana. He obtained an Executive Master’s degree in Criminology at the Faculty of Law, University of Tirana.

He completed the International Executive Programme at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, with a focus on leadership and public governance.
He is also certified through the International Executive Programme at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) in natural resource governance and energy transition.
